If your current homeowners insurance policy is charging a lot of money to cover hurricane coverage, it may be time to shop around and see if you can get cheaper homeowners insurance with hurricane coverage elsewhere.

Hurricanes can caused a lot of damage and devastation to a structure. Most insurance companies do cover damage cuased by hurricane except for some provisions depending on the insurance company. A lot of residents in Louisiana were shocked to hear that homeowners insurance companies were finding their way out of being responsible to cover a home because damage caused by hurricane flooding was not covered.

If your current insurance company will not cover other damages such as broken windows and structural damages, you should consider looking into other insurance companies just to see what they would cover and see how much more you can save if you switch.

If your property has been damaged, save any receipts and keep track of all the damages by taking pictures using a film camera (digital cameras are not known to hold in court because they can be tempered with). Call your insurance agent right away and inform them of the damages.
